Professional Resume Writer in Calgary – Tips to Shorten Your Resume
Generally, resumes should be to no longer than two pages in length. If your resume is longer, the following tips can help you shorten your document:
- Remove older work history. The general rule is to go back only 10-15 years for your work experience.
- Combine similar roles. Even if your work was at more than one company, if you had the same title and the same responsibilities, you can consider combining the roles to avoid repeating the same content.
- Use a combination functional/reverse chronological format. This format allows you to highlight the best information and accomplishments on the first page, so even items from your early work history can be showcased.
- Eliminate unnecessary and old fashioned content. Remove an objective statement or the phrase “References Available Upon Request” from your resume.
- Adapt the formatting. Play with spacing, font size, and margin size. Remember to keep it readable with adequate white space.
Keeping your resume to one or two page resume will ensure that a recruiter reads the entire document, anything longer probably won’t be read. Include the best content in those two pages to impress hiring managers and secure an interview.
