For the past few years I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from a fellow Certified Professional Resume Writer in Calgary, Adrienne Tom. One of the most important things I’ve learned from Adrienne is to sell yourself to employers, don’t just tell them your background.
Selling is stating your accomplishments in a way that proves your value to employers. Telling is simply listing your tasks and responsibilities like a job description.
When you think of things from an employer’s perspective, they want to know what you can do for them. The best way to do this is by highlighting your most significant accomplishments and adding quantitative details whenever possible. What challenges have you overcome? When did you put in extra effort to make a difference? What major projects have you completed? How have you helped customers?
In order to have a strong resume, sell it, don’t just tell it!
