- Reverse Chronological. This resume type lists your most recent work history first, and works backwards. This type of format is easy to follow and allows for the identification of relevant details.
- Functional Resume. Functional resumes are broken down by skill, not by work history. This type most commonly works for clients with large gaps in their employment, or for clients changing careers. Work history is listed, but generally details are not provided (other than company, position title, and dates of employment).
- Combination Format. This is the most widely used format for professional writers, and is used to highlight skills and accomplishments while keeping the document easy to follow. Typically, the resume starts with a qualifications or skills section to focus on career accomplishments. A career history section then provides details of work history starting with the most recent position.
